Bans off my Body. in collaboration with Planned Parenthood, 2021This piece is a combination of Jaxxy icons, representing ferocity and tenderness, masculine and feminine, empowerment and action. The viewer is meant to unravel more images as they peer inside the Jaxxy lexicon. You might find a Mayan jaguar, sacred hearts, a proud luchadora, children engaged in collective action, star-crossed lovers, and even a portrait of the artist themself. The images are juxtaposed on divergent landscapes, from the jungle, to the streets, to ephemeral space. If you look deeper, you can find softness amongst the harsh, calm amongst the brash, and many other “contradictions.” In this space, binary is unsatisfactory, there is unity in difference, and it’s the spaces in-between where we find our message.
